Tips for digging your car out of a snow storm
  • Start your vehicle and turn on the heat and defrosters as soon as you are able to get into your vehicle.
  • The best way to open frozen doors is to use a remote. If you don't have a remote try using de-icer.
  • Clear snow away from the tailpipe - exhaust must be able to flow freely from the tailpipe or it may build up in the car's interior.
  • Dig around the wheels and sides of the car (especially the driver's door).
  • Use a scraper to clear the windshield, side windows, side mirrors, roof and hood. Snow or ice on your hood or roof can blow onto your windshield while driving, blocking your view and, might block the view vehicle behind you.
  • Try using a broom to clear snow off of vehicles with higher roofs.
